ABOUT US
From fossil-free innovation to play-ready performance

We’re redefining performance with renewable, transparent, and regenerative materials — proving that sustainability and excellence can coexist.

Our Mission

From fossil rubber to future materials

Lionfill is the next step in Taraxa’s mission to eliminate microplastics and petroleum-based rubber from the turf industry.

Founded in Norway, Taraxa is a materials science company dedicated to transforming extractive industries into regenerative systems — creating high-performance materials that give back to nature rather than take from it.

A New Era of Material Design

Born from a regenerative vision

Lionfill was born from that vision. It’s a new brand under the Taraxa family, focused entirely on sustainable rubber granule solutions that deliver elite performance while significantly reducing environmental impact.

Where most artificial turf systems rely on fossil-derived plastics and synthetic rubber, Lionfill takes a different path — one built on natural chemistry, renewable resources, and transparent design.

Performance Grounded in Purpose

Science-driven. Sustainability-led.

Our team combines decades of expertise with a clear environmental purpose. Every step — from sourcing to formulation and testing — is guided by life-cycle thinking and measurable sustainability metrics.

We don’t just replace one ingredient with another; we redesign materials to ensure they meet real-world performance needs and safety standards for both players and ecosystems.

No Compromise on Quality

Renewable without compromise

At Taraxa, we believe the transition to sustainable materials must happen without compromise — not less durable, not less safe, not less enjoyable to play on.

Lionfill proves that renewable materials can match — and even surpass — fossil-based alternatives.

Looking Toward Tomorrow

Part of a bigger change

Lionfill is our first commercial step in reimagining what sports surfaces can be. Today, it’s made from natural rubber derived from the rubber tree — a renewable, biobased material available at scale.

Tomorrow, we aim to produce it from rubber dandelion (Taraxacum kok-saghyz) — a plant with enormous potential for sustainable rubber and plastics production.

This journey represents more than a product evolution — it’s the foundation for a new, circular materials economy, where innovation and ecology move forward together.

Our Promise in Action

Our commitment

Lionfill is built for today’s performance and tomorrow’s sustainability — because the future of sport deserves better materials.

Develop high-performance, biobased materials that protect both people and planet

Maintain full transparency and traceability across the value chain

Support turf owners in meeting and exceeding emerging environmental regulations

Continue investing in next-generation plant-based feedstocks like rubber dandelion
